After the despair of having an FA CUP FINAL appearance snatched away by a last gasp penalty in the 1981 SEMI FINAL against WOLVES at HILLSBOROUGH, it was off to HIGHBURY for the replay…
This game I remember very well. I had never seen so many SPURS at a game. They were everywhere. HIGHBURY was heaving, and the famous NORTH BANK was packed with thousands of SPURS. It was fantastic, and a vision I will NEVER forget.
Midway through the first half, GARTH CROOKS burst through the WOLVES defense, and SMASHED a low drive into the corner of the net at the NORTH BANK end. HIGHBURY erupted, the NORTH BANK SPURS (never thought I would ever say that) were going crazy. GARTH CROOKS added a second, before RICKY VILLA unleashed fury on WOLVES with a 20 yard ROCKET into the top corner for 3-0.
I knew then that “SPURS WERE ON THEIR WAY TO WEMBLEY”….
It was one of the most amazing feelings EVER at the final whistle. SPURS had done it, we were on our way to the FA CUP FINAL. The place was going MENTAL.
I was one of the thousands of SPURS in the NORTH BANK that night. I will NEVER forget the experience…
