According to the Express, the White Hart Lane club have launched an offer worth £15.8million for Anthony Martial, who has been praised for his lightening pace and excellent finishing.

The 18-year-old is searching for a new club to receive regular first-team football as Dimitar Berbatov and Radamel Falcao are ahead of him in the pecking order at Monaco.

Martial has caught the eye of new Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino who wants to build a young side capable of playing attractive football, similarly to what he achieved at Southampton, and challenge for a Champions League spot.

Damn..this is moving quickly ! Is he really that good ?

Tottenham are closing in on the signing of Monaco striker Anthony Martial after reportedly making a £15.8million bid for his services.

Martial is rated as one of the best young strikers in the world but the 18-year-old has found first-team chances limited at Monaco.

Wolfsburg have been linked with a move for him but reports in France say Spurs have made a £15.8million offer and are now confident of luring him to White Hart Lane.

15 million is a pretty ridiculous price for him. Good young prospect, but that's any eye opener of a price tag if true.

Never heard of him but that's alot of dough for a 18-year old Ligue 1 reserve.

Transfer Centre - Football Transfers News & Rumours | Sky Sports

Skysports reporting it twice, france football and the telegraph as its sources.
25m sounds ridiculous though. Dont know about this guy, if the quotes are true, he must be something else. My personal opinion would be to sign someone with english football pedigree.
But what i know. Its not my job to lose if invesment gone bad.

I do laugh at the Express though "The 18-year-old is searching for a new club to receive regular first-team football as Dimitar Berbatov and Radamel Falcao are ahead of him in the pecking order at Monaco"

Neither of them will be at Monaco next season and he played more games than Berbatov this season in any case.

I know I really shouldn't make any sort of judgements based upon YouTube videos, but I'm going to go ahead in this case.

    Ligue 1 defences look shoddy.

This could be a very exciting addition. I am still hard pressed to believe we are going to spend 25mil on a single player this window. Especially one this young and unproven. 25 mil would get us a proven product with a fairly high skill level. Of course, Martial could turn out to be a world beater eventually. But that's still a high price tag and basically we are paying for future potential if this happens.

    Similar to the Lamela deal.

If this is real and we get Martial. I wouldn't at all expect him to look close to a 25mil player for us for at least 2 seasons if not more.

Patients and time are necessary when evaluating this kind of deal.

I am sure if it happens and he underperforms next season, many will be calling for his head and how he's a bust and not worth near 25 mil.

But yea. We would be paying 25 mil, but likely wouldn't see that kind of value for 3 to 5 seasons. I am fine with that.

He's got more CL experience than 90% of our team and he looked damn good doing it. Would be a great signing and not far from levy's range for young players.

Spurs complete transfer for 19-year-old Champions League striker - Cartilage Free Captain

Catilag Free Captain's reporting it's complete. They aren't the most dependable. Just find it weird they are actually having it finalized all ready but haven't heard from anywhere else. It does however make me think this is really happening, or at least have some faith that i could very well actually happen.

I think this is a great buy if so. I just hope the transfer fee is wrong and we payed a bit less for him. Such an interesting transfer though if true. Kind of out of the blue.

Kid could really be a special and dominant player though. Hopefully more clarification will come by the end of the night either way.

Id still temper expectations. 9 goals and 4 assists in Ligue 1 could easily become 2 goals and 2 assists in the EPL.
I just think the disparity between the leagues is pretty significant and we shouldn't expect him to go 14 and 5 in all games for Spurs next year, maybe even 2 seasons.

Im assuming he will play out wide?

That can be said of any foreign transfer, though. All I know is that he has the physical qualities to become an excellent player for us. And he's displayed it against top teams. You have to start somewhere and that's a pretty good place to do it.

The money being reported is absolutely mental for this kind of player. Sure he's young and we've bought expensive youngsters in the past but not close to this amount. He'd be £8 million off our record buy, risky move and I cant see Levy dishing out that kind of cash.

Looks a dead ringer for Berahino.
