Well at least we can see why we were never seriously in for him. That fee is insane.

Yeah, doesn't make sense. Still can't believe they'll pay insane money now for this player.

    So to sum up.

    1- Player plays up

2- Club extend contract (knowing he'll leave if they get the right price) to bid up player's value.

3- Daft club and manager come in with daft bid.

Well, it looks like Man Utd's shambles of a transfer window is helping the Monaco coffers. We bid, he signs a new contract; Man Utd have to pay double, they accept. Least we are 2nd in the list of panic buying at the end of the transfer window this time.....that is if we do buy before the deadline.

All this tells you is that Lacazette has no interest in going to Man Utd.

At least now we'll only have to play against him once this season.

Whooohhoohooohoohoooooo (read with the Krusty the Clown voice)

Ain't that a deal. To pay 36 million pounds for Anthony fcking Martial ...
Alrighty - let's put that in context - for that money, you could have got Pedro (19M £/26M €) and Mandžukic (13,8M £/ 19M €) and you would still have enough left to strenghten your defence with Wimmer for example...

If the reported fee is correct, this has to be one of the silliest transfers in quite some time...

United are never very good at getting value because everyone knows how much cash they have.....same goes for City, it's money no object and impacts everyone else (us included)

That is very true, but the player also has to want to play for the team too.

I'd just like to ask, was he actually a subject of an offer from us or not? If so was it turned down because the fee was too low?
I just remember his name being constantly linked to us, then reading he signed a new deal with Monaco, now he's off to Man U.
    Bizarre!!

I have a feeling United were probably always sniffing around and Monaco convinced him to sign the new deal in order to get a bigger fee.

So they loan out Januzaj and buys Martial for an insane amount of money? In the meantime someone like Ayew who didn't cost Swansea a dime ripped them a new one just the other night.

Let's hope this happens. Man U are one of our key competitors for the top 4, and even they have a budget they have to live within. I want them to spend that budget as foolishly as possible, and this is definitely foolish.

Unfortunately the United pocket is so bottomless that it probably evokes Hawkings radiation.

I just keep hoping that ManU have a really sh!t season...
Soon I'll be able to hope that Martial is a bigger failure than Rebrov/Soldado at Spurs or Torres at Chelsea or Carroll at Liverpool or Altidore at Sunderland or... I'll stop there as I believe that I've communicated my feelings pretty well... ;)

If true, perhaps the most shocking transfer fee of all time?

From what I can gather, this source is generally pretty well regarded. But that number just can't be accurate......

I heard 36 mil pounds earlier. Not sure of the current exchange, but 80 mil Euro seems more like 44 mil pounds. On another note, exactly how much money does United have? Golly.

No way they paid that much as a transfer fee, possibly including wages it would be that much 80m euros is ~£58m, so transfer fee of £36m plus £4.5m per year in wages for 5 years.

Paying over £40Mil plus for this kid makes our fee's for N'Jie and Son look like chump change that is an insane fee and to think had they acted right away at the start of the window they would have 100% gotten him for about €20Mil/£15Mil f**king dumbass.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jardim put down his job after that transfer. The transfer policy in Monaco is f**ked up and Martial was one of the few players that Jardim really wanted to keep. In June, the owner of the club promised him not to sell Martial, Bernardo Silva, Dirar, Subasic, Raggi, Elderson and Toulalan. It's just awful because they already sold their best players Kondogbia, Kurzawa, Carrasco and Abdennour this summer. Plus they really didn't have the time to get a replacement for Martial. Not to mention that the replacements bought for the sold key players haven't made a good start to the season... Let's hope the guy they bought from Man City, Rony Lopes, will atleast step up.

It almost seems like there is something more to the deal that we aren't seeing. That fee simply makes no sense, even when you're desperate.

Even half the people @ redcafe think this is insane money. There is clearly something very strange going on behind the scenes.

    Some enjoyable posts there:

The Martial fee is ludicrous -- and is being rightly decried in the press -- and only goes to show that ManU has so fckuing much money that they really just don't give two shits about who they buy and for how much. Which is what made their loss to Swansea that much more delicious -- that look on Turkey Neck's face! Priceless!

Speaking of which, I really do need to start a thread asking the Brits on this forum to patiently explain to us Yanks exactly what you coonts think about the effect of money on the EPL. We have a similar issue with baseball, but honestly even that isn't as bad as this. The whole system is patently unfair. I mean, right?

It's a whole lot more "unfair" in other countries than here at least the major source of income gets shared equitably compared to Spain where even with the new TV distribution it's going to take 5+ years before it's anywhere near an equitable share as here.
