The 43rd Copa America starts in Argentina on 1st July and runs until 24th July.

12 team will participate, the 10 regular South American nations and Costa Rica and Mexico as guests. Japan were due to participate but withdrew after the Tsunami earlier this year.

Spurs players involved will probably include Heurelho Gomes & Sandro with Brazil and Giovani Dos Santos with Mexico.

The Copa America used to be called the South American Championship and has run since 1916, making it one of the oldest international football competition in the world.

Uruguay and Argentina have both won the competition 14 times, with Brazil in third place with 8 wins.

Paraguay and Peru have both been Champions twice and Colombia and Bolivia have both won the competition once each.

Spain were also invited but turned it down as they wanted to give their players a break.

Would've been very interesting to see Spain up against the likes of Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Mexico on the American's turf.

Yep I would say brazil is favourites as well but since its in argentina I would give the favourite status to argentinia imo.

It will be damn hard for anyone to beat them at home.

the last 2 copa america finals have been brazil vs argentina so we all know which final it will be this time again......

Its like the gold cup everytime usa and mexico and here its everytime argentina vs brazil.

With brazil winning but now its time for argentina!

Its time for messi to show it to neymar!

One of the better competitions, and can we watch it in England without forking over ridiculous money? No. Fecking disgrace.

This is such ****ing crap. Why the shit did Lucas start over Sandro? Not to mention he was pathetic; half-decent (that's being generous)towards defense, and contributed nothing to attacks, as usual.

I've thought about this a bit and though I disagree with the decision I think I see his reasoning. Sandro's best quality by far is breaking up play, and that wasn't a game that needed that type of player. They bossed possession and should have won. I would be shocked if he doesn't play against someone like Argentina, Uruguay or Chile provided they play each other.

Side note, if Chile can finish they look like they can go far. I know it was basically a Mexico B team but at points in that match Sanchez just did what he wanted on the ball. Suazo looked lively as he tends to do for Chile, didn't have the best WC but he's still quality IMO. Why he hasn't played more in Europe IDK, he could do well in a mid table La Liga or Serie A side.

Also Tabarez (Uruguay coach) is really working a nerve with me. He continually plays Cavani out of position. Though in the last game he had the forward line more fluid but still most of the match he was on the RW, not even inverted. He just needs to stick Cavani up top, Suarez on the left, and Forlan on the right in a 4-3-3. Suarez is right footed but Forlan is two-footed, that's the only way to get the best out of them. If he doesn't think Cavani can hold the ball up then do what Barca does and play a deep ST. Though unlike Barca funnel play through wingers cutting inside and Cavani can play just behind them.

    ---------Cavani---------
    Forlan------------Suarez

I concur with you on every point with Uruguay post. And I am rooting for them for this tourney, as I have been a Suarez fan for a couple of years now, have always thought Forlan was underrated, and Cavani is a beast.

I see what you mean about Brazil's system, and perhaps it's just my Spurs bias towards Sandro. But I think Ramires shouldn't be in the Brasil national team's starting lineup, he isn't of that quality. I think the highly underrated Elano with Sandro next to him would have been great. But then again they were playing (what they thought at least) a far lesser side in Venezuela, and not having any simply attack-minded players in the CM might have been a mistake. Still, I think Sandro + Elano would have been a much better choice for them than Ramires and Lucas. I would have liked to see a 4-4-1-1 with said midfielders and Leandro leading the line with Pato behind him, but hey what can ya do.

Chile dominated Mexico, they looked like Spain out there. Sanchez was quality, but he did make a couple of mistakes. I think Chile will most likely lose to an Arg. or Brasil side in the semis, and Uruguay taking the cup for me.

Its good the less sandro plays the better for us.

Less chances for an injury and less people will be watching him dominate the other midfielders and less people will make bids for him after the cup.

Thats the best thing that could happen. Sandro spending the cup on the bench!

im sorry but I really do hate this strain of though, it comes up a lot tbh when people start talking about england internationals. Yea sure there is a possibility of a player getting hurt on international duty but surely the experience players (especially young players) gain on international duty is worth it. how can you think its good that he doesn't get the opportunity to play with and against world class players and continue to develop his football education
