I wouldn't say it's the end of a generation - look at Beckham, he's playing at 35. So this may not be the last World Cup for some squad members.

Though I would doubt Smalling to come from obscurity at Fulham to full international in four years time. Lee Cattermole? also doubt it.

Who would I replace them with? Ask me in December 2013 :302:

I'll be on line on 20 December 2012 if the World is going to end on 21 December 2012 to say goodbye to you all....

Smalling has signed for Manchester United for £10m so I think he must have something about him.

Oh, but my team would look something like this:

    ----------------------- Hart ------------------------
    G. Johnson ------ Dawson ------ Shawcross ----- Mattock
    Lennon ------Huddlestone ----- Shelvey ---- A. Johnson
    --------------- Rooney -------- Maynard ------------

Also, I think Walcott may have finally added something other than pace to his game. Danny Rose could keep improving and improving. Then there is Caulker and Bostock.

You would expect Ashley Young and Gabby Agbonlahor to finally cement a place in the England squad in 4 years time.

Finally I think Alex Smithies will be a great keeper and we may finally be sorted having Joe Hart and Smithies battling it out for the Number 1 shirt!

But, anything can happen in 4 years!

    ----------------------- Hart ------------------------
    G. Johnson ------ Dawson ------ M.Richards ----- Baines
    Lennon ------Huddlestone ----- Ramsey ---- A. Johnson
    --------------- Rooney (c) ----- Defoe ------------

with the likes of J.Evans, J.Wilshere, S.Warnock, A.Young, Agbonglahor, Shawcross on the bench

I still think Joe Cole, Ashley Cole, James Milner, SWP, Michael Carrick, Darren Bent, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard will still be involved somehow

Welsh and Irish players can't play for England though mate! ;)

But I forgot how young Milner was!! Probably replace Shelvey and put Milner in mine.

Yes. I think he is the most underrated player in the English game.

If a Prem team don't come calling in the next 4 years and I would be amazed if he isn't at the World Cup 2014 at the prime age of 28.

    YouTube - Nicky Maynard Goal

And there is just a tiny glimse of the magic he has at his feet. Probably the best goal he scored of the season, but you could easily pick 10-12 he got this season and put them in a Goal of the Season just on his own!!

    . Hart
    Johnson - Dawson - Shawcross - Baines
    Lennon - Wilshere - Huddlestone - Gerhard - Cole
    . Rooney

As long as Lampard is gone things will improve greatly. He never played well for England even when he still had some pace. Of course a new manager too.

    -----------Rodwell------Huddlestone
    ----------------Wilshire
    Lennon-------------------------Adam Johnson
    ---------------Rooney

Based on roughly how good they are now and obviously not counting some mad footy manager style potential being unleashed, and assuming the 28+ old guard like lampard, gerrard, ferdinand, a.cole and terry have all retired
