Okay, I'm moving to the UK in just over a month and trying to sort out what I need to do to get myself to a Spurs away game.

I'll be up in Scotland first, and my idea is to get the train from Edinburgh (or Glasgow) to Wigan on the 24th of September, and meet my friend who will come up from London. We would then attempt to get a train to London after the game.

My questions are pretty much this:

How long does the train from Edinburgh to Wigan take, and how long does the train from London to Wigan take? (The New Zealand vs France Rugby World Cup game is on in the morning and ideally we'd be able to watch that before departing?)

I will have all my luggage on me that I will have brought from New Zealand; would the Wigan train station have storage lockers I could put my bags in while the game is on?

How far away from the train station in Wigan is the stadium, i.e. what is the latest we could get in to Wigan by to comfortably make it to the game?

Is it worth staying a night in Wigan, or (as I suspect) would you want to get out of there quick smart?

What are the train services after the game down to London like?

How hard will getting tickets for this game be for someone with no membership (yet)?

    Thanks very much in advance.

Ok bud so in answer to your questions.

    1. Tickets for this game are very easy, any issues let me know.
    2. Train from Glasgow will take approx 3.5 hours with a change probably Liverpool area.
    3. Train to London will take about 5 hours with a change in either Liverpool or Birmingham.
    4. You need to be there about an hour before kick off preferably.
    5. I don't believe Wigan station has storage lockers so that might be an issue. If I am going and I should be you can store them in my car.
    6. Essentially you must meet us in the marquee bar for a beer before the game but get the train home after and don stay the night as Wigan is a dive.

    Hope this helps dude. Enjoy

So according to those sites, Glasgow -> Wigan 2 hrs 29 minutes, and London (Euston) -> Wigan 1 hr 55 minutes. Can those times be trusted?

Is it Wigan North Western that I want to be going to?

This is actually starting to sound almost feasible.

They would be slower though, yeah? I'm more worried about the time it would take than the cost at the moment.

Actually, what are flights like in to Wigan? Has it got an airport, or would you normally just fly in to Manchester?

Ha ha! They've only recently learned the secret behind fire, mate. :)

Liverpool and Manchester airports are about equidistant from Wigan (15-20miles); either'll do.

Also, how much are match tickets likely to cost? Would they be in the same region as Wolves Away ~ 34 quid?

In Austria and in Croatia taking the bus is cheaper and doesn´t take as long as travelling with the train. Don´t see why it should be different in the UK.

Yeah, i forgot that Austria is much smaller than UK and it doesn´t have to many problems with traffic jams.

It's all to do with the poor quality of the roads, drivers regulations, route of the roads. Stop being pedantic fella. Believe me I live in the UK I know it's quicker on the train compared to a coach. Why is it you feel you know more about everything than anyone else?

I don't think he was being sarcastic; Austria is much smaller than the UK (area and population, but most importantly population density) and probably doesn't have the same traffic jam problems.

I think the train is the best bet for me, anyway.

The tickets should be easy enough to get to be fair, We have a large allocation, I'm not sure if you will be able to catch the rugby will have to check the kick off time. The stadium is about 30 mins from either of the train stations in wigan and you shouldnt have to stay overnight in Wigan however should you and your friend fancy a night out up north Manchester is only 40 mins from wigan on the train and amuch better place to stay and go out.

Hi, so we waited until the tickets have gone on general sale, but there still doesn't seem to be any indication of a place that you can buy them on the tottenhamhotspur.com website.

It's not saying they're sold out though, it just doesn't come up with a bit to purchase them. Is the website just terrible, or am I missing something?

Any advice would be much appreciated, as I would be mortified to miss out on this one. Can you buy a block of 4 tickets together, generally?

In my experience, the rail system is very unreliable in the UK. (No offence) Many a time has the train been cancelled whilst I have been on the platform. I would allow yourself more time, just in case. I must say the London Tube is VERY reliable though.

If you go ontop the official site then on the fixtures & results find the Wigan away game and on the same row there will be two icons one saying ticket news and another saying buy tickets click buy tickets then you will have to open an account on the site its free of charge. Then you can buy tickets on general sale with ease.
