If I was in any doubt that the future of England football team is in trouble then this call up comfirms it. The way I see it Fabio had the chance to call Andy Carrol up which would of given him some good experience with the senior squad. Instead a 33yr old that clearly hasn't been good enough for the last 13yrs.

He's been called up because everyone else is either injured or in Carroll's case is out of form .

He deserves it I reckon, Davies is a proper hold up striker and better than the likes of Heskey .

to add another point though... if Carroll got dropped due to form why has Capello re-called Lennon who has been off form of late?

we're playing Montenegro... my nan could play on the wing and cause problems, but remember we are England we have to make a chore of everything we do!

I can understand the need for four strikers in the squad BUT if there aren't four quality strikers around, then, the formation needs modifying. I think we went 4-5-1 at one point because of injuries. Therefore Capello should be looking to changing his formation and bringing in another midfielder or a defender rather than calling up Davies. It's things like this that makes me doubt whether Capello is suitable as a national manager.

Maybe he has stopped listening the nonsense and realised Lennon is having a very good season for spurs and playing a major role in a lot of the goals we score.

I for one am proud of davies. It seems to me when he play he wins tons of headers and creates chances. When he was on, england came the closest to scoring throughout the match, except the header crouchie missed. I hope he makes it in the squad again.

    He is a dyeing breed.

He is the archetypal English front man of the 80's. Big strong and will biff almost any fooker out of the way to get his goal.

Football has moved on. The England team and this particular selection demonstrates perfectly what is wrong about the English game (on a national level).

The World has moved on and we have slipped back 2 or 3 decades due to the influx of foreign money and players in our league and the archaic old boys network of coaches and coaching techniques.

This is another thread though and Davies is currently the best England can muster. Pitiful.

This thread reminds me of what spurs fans used to sing to Ray Wilkins, although i agree that its a sorry state of affairs when all England can manage to produce to play in an important qualifier is Kevin Davies. Theres a reason why he wasnt picked for the first 15 years of his senior career. Im not looking foreward to the future of the England squad, we need to wipe the canvas clean and give youth a chance so that in 8 years we have a team of experienced top quality international players who are at the peak of their careers and know each others games well. Then and only then will we have a chance of winning anything. Gerrard Out, Terry Out, Ferdinand Out, Glen Johnson Out (more because he is shite), Lampard Out.

This is an England team i would like to see:

    ------------Hart-------------
    Naughton Smalling Shawcross Baines
    --------Milner---- Hudd------
    -Lennon ---Wilshire--- A. Johnson
    -------------Sturridge--------

Apolgies to Daws but he will be 34/35 when most of these players are still going to be going strong.
