I think Walker deserves a start but Capello will probably play either Richards or Jones there.

Richards and jones are both natural central defenders though so I hope walker can edge it :eek:16:

Definitely are but both have played full back for their clubs at times this season (Richards has done it for a couple years now), Jones in particular has done very well there. Also Smalling played RB the last match and I think if he was fit he would start over Walker. Personally I think Walker is the future at RB, if it was up to me I would start him, but I ain't Capello unfortunately....

I think Jones will get the nod ahead of Walker on the grounds he can defend better.

I think phil jones and terry is central defense and cole walker on the sides on form alone. Cahill hssn't cut it and neither has Richards imo.

And fabio says he will be picking the team based on form.

What will be amusing is when Glen Johnson comes back from injury. He is surely no longer an automatic choice at RB and may well have slipped to as low as number 3 or 4 in the pecking order.

Can't disagree too much with this.

Personally, I'd go for Jones ahead of Walker and Welbeck ahead of Bent.

As much as i like Baines... you can't have him ahead of Cole. Apart from Lahm he's probably the best LB in the world.

I think Downing will start over Adam Johnson. AJ hasn't been playing that much so I doubt Capello will play him. I do think AJ is far better than Downing but it's about time he realises that staying at City will ony hurt his chances at the International level.

Come on mate, the guy is the most overrated full back in a long, long time. I can't think of any top 6 full backs with even half the experience he has who offer such little towards attacks. Ashley Cole is absolute crap at attacking, just as bad, if not worse than Evra. The thing is, they're both amazing at defending, imo Cole is better. But in today's world, the best full backs have great talent to offer towards attacks: Lahm, Alves, Marcelo, Ramos, and imo BAE. I'll put Baines up there with that pack, and I think, if England plays a weaker side (a team outside of the top 20), Baines should easily get the start.

Rivron Welbeck ahead of Bent would be my choice too, but if I'm not mistaken, Welbeck hasn't played more than one half since he came back from injury, no? When fully fit, I'd put in Welbeck because he's younger, and Bent isn't that much better, probably not even as good. Give the experience to Welbeck, him and Rooney will be linking up like crazy come the Euros. I just hope England don't play that stupid defensive or long ball game that they often resort to. I want to see some Bulgaria-style play when we recently beat them 3-0 in Sofia.

I think we have to agree to disagree mate :D. In my opinion Cole is awesome in both attack and defence, not to mention he's pretty fast and strong. I've never seen him make a mistake and never seen him targetted, by others, as a weakness in the England team, same with chelski. That's how i judge him to be the best in the business and he's been like that for years. Alves, Marcelo, Ramos and BAE all have their weaknesses, mostly when it comes to going forward and positioning, i really can't think of one for Cole. Apart from taste in women lol.

based on form it would be:

Hart
Walker - Jones - Terry - Cole
Downing - Parker - Lampard - A. Young
Rooney - Welbeck

but i bet you its more like:

Hart
Jones - Terry - Cahill - Cole
Downing - Barry - Lampard - A. Young
Rooney - Bent

not much different but still typical Capello

I've followed Capello for sometime now, especially when he was the Roma manager, this is how he operates. I would be surprised not to see players selected on reputation, how else do you explain Carragher getting into the World Cup squad?
