Any selection for this game has to take into account we host Barcelona on Wednesday.

I've read Lloris might be ready for this game. Personally I'd rather not risk him unless he's ready. We need him for Barcelona. I'd like to see Gazza get another game before he's demoted upon Lloris' return.
It's Trippier's turn for rotation but if Aurier is indeed out then we need Trips for Barca, so KWP here.
If Dembele is going to start vs Barca, then I don't want him starting here. We need him at 100% vs Messi. I'd give Winks another run
I can't decide if I want Son/Lucas speed vs Barca or Lamela/Lucas skill so I'll go with who I want for this game.

    Gazzaniga
    KWP - Toby - Jan - Rose
    Dier - Winks
    Lamela - Dele - Lucas
    Kane

Whiteman, Sanchez, Davies, Wanyama, Dembele, Son, Llorente

    Gazzaniga
    KWP - Sanchez - Jan - Rose
    Dier - Amos
    Lucas - Lamela - Dele
    Kane

Whiteman, Toby, Winks, Wanyama, Son, GKN, Llorente

Definitely want KWP to start, but not holding my breath TBH. I would certainly rest Toby. Thought he was excellent yesterday. Winks may not be able to go again. He had good moments and bad last game but got better as the game went on. He's probably needed against Barca, especially if Eriksen is out. So I put Winks on the bench and go out on a limb and start Amos. I rearranged the front line to put Lamela in the center. I didn't put Davies on the bench leaving Jan as backup LB if needed.

    Gazzanigga

    Trippier Toby Vert Rose

    Dier Alli

    Lucas Lamela Son

    Kane

Id have left out Eriksen anyway after some poor games.

    Gazzaniga
    KWP-Toby-Jan-Davies
    Dier-Dembele
    Lucas-Dele-Lamela
    Kane

Saving Trips and Rose for Barcelona. And hopefully Dier will be out of the lineup against them as well

KWP....lord help us! I hope and expect Trippier to play vs Huddersfield and Barca. Given it’s a Saturday-Wednesday schedule, I don’t think there will be as much rotation as people think.

agree with everyone who posted that we have to have one eye on barca.

Not counting August which is one game per week for the first 4 games (Trips played almost all of them), but after the international break when we started with 2 games per week, Poch has observed a strict rotation on WB/FB. Starting with Liverpool, the next 4 games were Rose/Trips, Davies/Aurier, Rose/Trips, Davies/Aurier. He followed this pattern regardless of whether the games were 3 or 4 days apart.

That would imply Rose/Trips are due this weekend and then Davies/Aurier would take on Barca. Except with Aurier out that would put KWP vs Barca and I'm sure no one wants that. So Trips has to play that one. The options are reverse the rotation at RB or make Trips play both. You are correct that at 4 days apart Poch might very well play him in both games. Cardiff is 3 days after Barca. Perhaps KWP will start that one and then Aurier returns and everything returns to normal. I think the issue is that we all want Trips fresh for Barca and KWP needs minutes. That can be best achieved by playing KWP tomorrow.

I would argue that could best be achieved by loaning KWP out. I don’t think he is up to PL standard. His defensive positioning is terrible.

What’s most annoying is we only find ourselves in this situation because we took the round of 32 of the Carabao Cup seriously and played players we can’t afford to lose to injury. And then we lost one to injury.

This will never happen, but this is what I would do.

    --------------------Gazz---------------------
    Trips-----Toby------------Jan-------Rose
    ----------Winks------------Dembele------
    Son----------------Alli--------------Lamela
    -------------------Moura---------------------

Kane, Dier, Wanyama, Sanchez and Dier on the bench. I think that front four will score goals. I doubt we'll concede, at least not more than one. 3 points and a fairly rested side for Barca. Easy breezy.

I'b be OK with that, but Lamela has got to play through the middle. I know the front three mix around at will, but just to say.

With Dele out we might see GKN today. Actually with Barca coming, we'd better see GKN today.

I thought Lamela deserved a start today. Maybe Poch is worried with Eriksen and Ali injured, he needs him for the Barca game.

I think that's probably right. Lamela is still not exactly a horse you can just ride. I'm still surprised GKN isn't on the bench though. A front three and only Lamela to come on.

If Vert off, revert to a 442.

We have nothing in the midfield

Even the announcer remarked that Dier had given away possession four times in that half. He is a lumbering, galumphing dolt who was clearly dropped on his head sometime during the transfer window...

When a defensive midfielder keeps a clean sheet then it’s job done....as for this criticism on his creative ball playing skills etc etc, it’s not his job to spray worldies around the park or carry the ball on the dribble up the field, yes he should have a decent all round game, can’t argue there, but we need to look at others around him, Dembele or Winks are doing Dier no favors at the minute, they should be the creativity in midfield and be running box to box, giving Dier a simple pass option when he has the ball etc etc, the moose doesn’t have the legs, which is why Pichettino wanted to sell him in the summer, and Winks is only coming back from a long lay off and is nowhere near up to speed, so it’s only expected there is a little unbalanced look about our midfield right now.....bottom line is, if Levy had Pochettinos back in the summer we would be looking at Dier and (insert name here), the moose sunning it up in Qutar or somewhere like that and Winks being giving time to recover fully and “fight” for his place....

A top draw save by Gazzaniga in the first half. Low and down to his left. Ball screened by a defender. The ball came from a long way out but I'd give it a 9 out of 10.

Always good to win, no matter how. Horrible game, full of game stopping fouls, and a lack of any real quality.

Thought we defended pretty well, considering all they really threw at us were bombs into the box. But I do fear the game midweek - Huddersfield are poor, they have spirit, but they're poor. Yet we were totally unable to control midfield, and again were made to look pretty f##king slow and static for long periods. If we show the same against Barca, it could get pretty ugly.

But a wins a win, 3pts, and back in the top 4.........COYS!!

I thought we took their best shot with all their aggressive fouling. But our counter was miserable. We fumbled away so many chances. Son and Lucas were pretty awful. Kane was better but he gets chopped down every time he gets the ball. If we had a decent midfield he could camp out in the box and that would put and end to it.
