Well. If we can be that bad and still win away at one of last year's top ten sides, we should be in for another good year. Jan, Hugo and Dele stood out for me.

And great game from our World Cup winner

He and Sissoko should be named the Chuckle Brothers - a pair of comedians.

Our midfield is just awful. We were lucky to not concede more goals.

Thought Poch made a good change bringing on Dembele as his ability to keep the ball and calm things down took the sting out of the game when we were on the back foot.

Dembele certainly changed things. We were headed for a loss there for a moment. Kane worries me. He hasn't looked good for a long time. And no I didn't think he was good in the World Cup either outside a couple of games. He shouldn't have played. JV and Sanchez were good, Dele was good. I thought Dier had a good game and avoided mistakes which usually are what spoil it for him. But lots of tired play out there. You could easily see which side had the summer off.

Poor 2nd half, but happy for the win. Hugo MOTM by far.

Typical first game really. Miles off the pace, poor passing but Newcastle too shite to take advantage. Lloris had a good game. Vertonghen also decent with a great block. Everything else was very messy, especially defending basic balls and distribution. Kane looked like a player who hadnt done much for a month but it should do him good.

Great assist from Aurier and header for the winner. The goal we conceded was just rank bad defending, even though it was a good cross. You cant let balls go over your head like that.

Luckyish 3 points but we wont play like that very often.

Good result for me. Yeah, there were a few shaky moments, but it's the first game of the season and I'd expected that.

Yep, strange to say, but these easily could be the 3 points that make top 4.

Fantastic result! Its not an easy place ever to play as an away side, so to win with so many players just back training is a great effort. Second half we faded, but hardly surprising.
Love Dele, his goal sums up why he's vital, his late runs and goals make him indispensable. Surprised Kane stayed on for the full 90, as he was clearly not up to speed, and gave the ball up a lot. Sissoko and Aurier were a disaster together on that right side defensively - couple of times in that second half went totally AWOL and we should have been punished. I can hack one of em in there, but not both in the same game.

But overall, the result is all that matters, and getting off to a good start is vital..........COYS!!!!

Thank god for Dembele coming on, Richie going off and the cross bar. We looked spent in the 2nd half and did well with some luck to grind out the win.
Surprised Kane stayed on for so long with this being the only opportunity to use Son before he goes off.

Can't complain about an opening win. Team still has a lot of work to do gelling and of course getting all our players fit.

Was it just me? Those kits made me think we had 11 goalies on the field.

Not a good choice. And strangely for something so garish they are not particularly easy to see. They don't contrast well with the grass. There are too may conflicting priorities when selecting uniforms. They should be something good to play in, first and last.

Great win for a team without preseason. Loved Dier in a first half. Sisoko and Aurier positioning when defending looked terrible. Hopefully we improve with every week.

A good result when you consider most of our top players only returned to training on Monday.
Lloris just edged super Jan as our MOTM with Dele & Dier both having good games too.
On the minus side Kane wasn't at the races in this match. The sooner we get to the 1st September the better in his case methinks.
Sissoko was Sissoko. Average at best offering little for the team. I just don't understand what Poch see's in him that gets him so many minutes on the pitch for us.
Now I think u all know that I think Aurier is a clown, that said I've had everything crossed this summer in the hope that he'll come good & prove me & his other doubters wrong.
Well, its not happening anytime soon is it? With the exception of 1 terrific cross he was fcuking woeful yesterday. I lost count of the amount of times he gave the ball away, failed to clear it properly or allowed a Newcastle player 10 acres of space to run in behind him.
The man is a fcuking liability. He's gotta go.

It was probably Aurier's worst game, even with the great assist.

I think Pochettino's worst failing as a manager, and it is a short list, is that he can't tell Kane what to do. Kane should have sat last Spring until his ankle was 100%. He cost us games and never did come back right. And he shouldn't have started against Newcastle. I don't think he played better than Sissoko TBH, or much differently. He should have been resting along with Trippier.

Pochettino specifically said after the game that he is going to rotate in the coming weeks. I hope he means it.

...we looked sluggish - not surprising, but our rivals seem to already be in mid-season form...
...Moura showed some flashes, but was MIA much of the time..
...Aurier's positioning and mindset still need work...
...good to see Amos get some time...

I don't get why Sissoko and Aurier even got squad numbers.
These two have got to be shipped out, also what's the reasoning behind even considering letting Rose go on loan to Schalke.
Other than these issues all's goodish.

As far as the Rose thing goes we need to keep him until January at least. We can’t let him go without a replacement. Same goes for anybody else who is the subject of a bid or enquiry, imho.

Happy with the win, especially given how poorly we played in the 2nd half. Buut compared to Citeh, Chelski and Liverpool we looked well below their class. I still find it hard to believe our lack of transfers. Levy and Lewis care more about profit than silverware. Look at Liverpool, their owners are prepared to put money on the table to try and win the title and they've done really well. Keita is a beaut and they now have a better defense.it will be them, not us, challenging citeh for the title

How the fcuk do they have a better defense?

    You're grasping at straws.
