This guy is barely playing for a mid table La Liga team. Why are we interested?

This sounds like another Njie and GKN really. He is 20 years old, if he was really good, real or barca would have snatched him by now. So it's a hopeful purchase that he will develop to become good in the future.

Why do those clubs have to be interested in a player for that player to be good?

They aren't the be all, end all with players

He's similar in the fact that he is relatively unknown and young but he doesn't play an attacking mid so at least you don't have to count on him for goals.

He's been looked at as a potential wing-back .... Spurs are scouting hard for midfield players with pace who can be 'converted' to wing-backs ... this lad fits the profile well ...

I posted something similar in the Rose thread, in a back five the FB's have reduced responsibility at the back, in essence they become midfield players tasked with both defending and attacking ...

This played to Walker and Danny's strengths, while perhaps covering their weaknesses ...

Same goes for players like Ox at Arsenal, Moses at Chelsea, Mahrez at Leicester and a few others ... maybe not the best defenders, nor indeed the best wingers, however their speed and competence in both roles makes for a useful player ....

I fully expect a lot more players who are now classed as midfield to convert to wing-backs as this role becomes more common in modern football ....

Of course it's not knew Messi, Ronaldo, Bale, all had spells in exactly that role .... Giggs made a career out of it, and a very good one at that ....

If I were to go completely crazy I might suggest that wing-back could even be a good position for Sissoko ... I'll get my coat .................

With all due respect, this is one of the dumbest comments I've ever seen. Kante played almost every game for his French club and helped them earn promotion to Ligue 1, where he continued to play almost every game for them, putting in 3,183 minutes that year.

This guy is barely playing. He played in 562 minutes last year and 59 the year before that. It's not much of a body of work. His whoscored rating last year was an awful 6.27.

I'm all for signing players on the cheap because they've showed potential, but what potential has this guy shown?

The point is: they were all playing and playing well.

If we're going to buy somebody who can't break into the first team, it better be because they're on Real Madrid.

Spurs seem to do best when they sign under the radar prospects. Prospects not being chased by RM, Barca , Bayern . PSG, etc.....

No one except a few people on this forum thought Dele Alli was going to become a star. Dier?

I trust Spurs scouting more than I would most clubs.

This guy was 19 last season when he played all his minutes. He can't be compared to other senior transfers who have played lots of senior football. Buying players from big leagues, often doesn't make sense as it usually means the other top clubs scouts have decided he wasn't good enough. But this guy is a kid who has barely played. It's just not comparable with N'Jie or GKN. 2 years and 50 odd senior games makes a massive difference, as it gives everyone a much clearer picture of a players true potential. When players like N'Jie don't turn out to be the next Thierry Henry it really shouldn't be much of a surprise as he'd played for Lyon 40 odd times and they let him go for £12 million. Alarm bells should have started ringing when they accepted the bid and no one else came in for such a bargain. If you think about it, there is almost a kind of arrogance from us, that we thought they hadn't noticed they had a top 4 standard attacking talent of their hands, despite working with every day! But Diop is totally different as he's only started 5 senior games and they seem to want a pretty big fee for him. It's a similar situation with Sanchez, who is playing in a lesser league and they want a big fee for him.

Lots of people on this forum were excited about Dele.

I'm all for going after prospects playing in lower leagues. But they should be doing well in that league!

That's a release fee... very few clubs pay the release fees! In fact, they are intentionally super high to stop that.

30 million euros is just the 'he'll go no matter what the offer price' but their real valuation will be significantly less.

Which is why Neymars release clause was silly low, considering.

The report also says "Spurs are confident of landing their man for significantly less.". If we sign him I think it will be for around £9m.

As a fan, I don't care how much Spurs pays for a player. Daniel Levy, Poch and the board does the business.

Aye, I agree... £8m for a youth prospect isn't exactly out of the ordinary... especially if we think we can coach in what we need.

true, barca are the best club to use to judge a player's talent. they didn't just spend €40m on paulinho or €20m on vermaelen.

I've read that we've passed on him due to others that are coming in. Something to look out for
