Rubin next in the EL. Use this thread for all pre/match/post discussion.
Walker Kaboul Bassong Rose
Gio Sandro Carroll Pienaar
Townsend, should get some time for this one as well.
I'd agree with that spursman. Would be good to see Pienaar back. I wonder if Pav will try to put himself in the shop window playing a Russian club.
Don't think Defoe will play. Townsend at RM and GDS and Pav up top.
You know Rubin Kazan are not a bad team , we should not underestimate them by putting out too weak a team , playing Pav is a waste of a shirt .
Cant see us playing with 1 striker against this lot.
Didnt see you saying GDS up top, that could be the case....but I think he'll play in the hole if he does play there instead of out wide.
Pav counts as 3 strikers - he's that good.
Clive Allen was just talking about this game on ESPN. Nothing much though, just that we will playing a few youngsters, as you'd expect. Having said that, as Rev points out, Kazan will give us a game. Didn't they beat Barca twice in recent years?
I love this Europa league man, that extra Spurs game really makes my Thursday nights, and its great watching the young'ens get a game. Looking forward to this but agree with the Rev, its actually a difficult one!
They did, but I really cant see Harry playing any other first team players than what I posted.
If I see Ade/Bale/Parker/Modric I will be shocked.
Yeah, we'd be silly to play any of those ahead of a trip to Ewood Park. I suppose you could say the same about Defoe, to an extent... But then without him there aren't many goals in the side. If GDS does play forward though, maybe he'll get back on it.
This will be by far the best European team we've played this season. Obafemi Martins and Haedo Valdez are going to be a huge threat up front, Carlos Eduardo was almost called up to Brazil's WC squad, and they've got a solid defense. It'll be a close game which is actually bad, means Walker and Kaboul (if they play) will have to do a lot of work, not good. Should be a good game, would like to see this, depending on fitness levels.
We will make it through to the knock out stages bar a fantastically bad run of results so there is no reason to bring out the big guns. Losing to Kazan wouldn't be a big issues for the campaign as they are a solid side and one loss to them isn't an embarrassment.
If we lose to them at home then we will lose to them away , we should at least try to win this one .
John Bostock tweeted a pic of himself training with the first team earlier. I wouldn't be surprised to see him involved. Lennon is meant to be fit for a start as well.
Walker Corluka Bassong Rose
Lennon Sandro Livermore Pienaar
LOL, I just saw that twitter account (pretty sure its fake) and that picture is from last season......He hasnt been involved much at all, only in a few reserve games. If any CM youngsters are getting a game against this lot its either Livermore/Carroll/and maybe Luongo who are all above him in the pecking order right now.
Walker - Charlie - Bassong - Rose
Pienaar- Livermore / Sandro - Caroll - Townsend
Subs: Gomes - Kaboul - Ekotto - Falque - Lennon - Parker - Defoe
I think Harry will mix 1st and 2nd team and bring up smth like this:
--GDS/(Lennon if fit)-------Pienarr--
(Townsend, Caroll, Kane in 2nd half mb)
Gaining 3 points is the aim, that will hugely increase our chances to pass the group stage. And we also must understand, that the match in Kazan will be much more difficult.
Btw, all Rubin's strikers are currently unavailable (I think only Lebedenko is fit + Karadeniz can possibly play a striker). Obafemi Martins, Dyadyun, Nelson Valdes, Medvedev are likely to miss the 1st clash due to injuries or failing late fitness tests.
some good line ups so far lads. the best being all of them include some of our 'lads'...
for me, both sandro and corluka have to start this one. it would be excellent to see luongu involved in some way too. krancjar? is he fit BrumSpur ? carroll has been doing well in this comp, hope he gets another run out.
i'd expect to see both luka and bale on the bench for this game, as rev pointed out, he's not going to want to lose the home leg
this is excellent news! i hope he is ready and hungry for football. an on fire aaron lennon is unstoppable!
I'm looking forward to seeing Lennon and Rose if they can play and to see if GDS can continue with where he left off last time he played.
is it on tv
on at least two russian channels
I will message you the sopcast link on thursday
ch5 have it
Last game: Rubin Kazan 3 - 0 Spartak Moscow, 16 Oct
You're right Rev..............Won't be as easy as some may think. But there again if they are as good as Pav :y2:
need to be winning our home games if we're gonna get to the business end of this comp.....if i was harry id throw out as strong a team as possible without taking too many chances on our main players.
Niko is out for a few weeks with an injury he got with Croatia.
from the daily mail
"likely to rest Scott Parker, Luka Modric, Rafael van der Vaart and Emmanuel Adebayor against Rubin, allowing young midfielder Tom Carroll to grab another opportunity."
Ah I love having a match on Thursdays since its the most boring day in my week.
