    Started as the team thread but now changed to the match thread

    My team would be

    -------------Gomes--------------

    Kaboul--Dawson--Gallas--BAE

    Lennon-Huddlestone--Modric--Bale

    --------------VDV----------------

    ---------------Pav---------------

    I'd leave Defoe off until the 2nd half if we need a change, starting with 2 up front were really not giving ourselves a change in play if were struggling for goals in the 2nd half. You leave Pav and Defoe on for the full 90 and there really is no dynamic sub coming off the bench, which Defoe can be used as.

    Charlie's a doubt but even if he wasnt I think Kaboul would be the right choice to play at RB, hate to leave Sandro out but in this sort of game we need Huddlestone's passing ability. Cant see VDV not playing a part in this, and even though the VDV Pav partnership hasnt been played much I reckon it could work for us tomorrow.

    At least it looks like we're going for it if that's true, but I would be worried about leaking a lot of goals.

    Any chance that Bale and (Lennon?) would be playing in a less advanced position like wingbacks?

    In terms of the 2nd formation with 3 in the back? It could be possible but I think if Harry is going for it then I think they'll stay up high. Sandro would cover the balls played over top so that they could stay up or Kaboul/Gallas cover the balls played down the wings with Sandro tucking back in with Daws. Thats just how I'm guessing we'd play that formation when defending.

    Sandro would essentially play sweeper.

    ---------gomes---------
    corluka-kaboul-dawson-bae
    lennon-hudd-modric-bale
    --------defoe-pav---------

    Start lennon only if he is ready to play, if not, then VDV RM!

    Just came across these quotes from Agnes.....might explain some things

    I suspect this would only happen if we are 2-0 up with 20mins to go, to start with that formation could be suicide.

    I think “You must stay on your feet, if you go to the floor you will give away a penalty kick.” and “The important part is to stay on your feet .” plus a final thought “Keep the ball… Enjoy the ball and have fun with it.”

    ITK's are bullshit

    Ofcourse we would have 3 at the back with 20 mins to go if we need goals, jesus it's not rocket science

    I like this a lot, may as well go for it! Jose would have to react and change things maybe?

    Thanks for your input, Mr. Wilkins.

    I'm in agreement with the OP as far as starting XI goes, I think Madrid will be happy to absorb pressure early with so many players on yellow and such a massive lead. Sounds strange to say it, but a certain amount of patience is required to give yourself a chance when trying to pull off something like a 4-goal comeback. No need to throw the kitchen sink from the start. And against RM, I'd consider two out and out strikers the kitchen sink.

    Benzema is back,CR7 is fit again,Kaka played 90min and Özil was rested. The squad is almost complete (Higuain).I doubt very much that you guys can manage a complete comback without conceding but a win at home would give you some of your pride back.

    Memo to VDV. If we get a free kick in a good position FFS let Bale take it.

    Gomes
    Kaboul Gallas Dawson Bale
    Lennon Thud Sandro Modric
    VDV Pavlechenko

    i'd play this tonight, its still tight enough not to be raped at the back, but with Bale bombing on and modric tucking it, we can potentially score goals

    I'd Like to see 4 - 3 - 3 (for a change)

    ----------------Gomes----------------
    -----------------------------------------
    ----------- Gallas----Dawson----------
    Kaboul----------------------------Bale
    -------------------------------------------
    ------------------Thudd------------------
    -------VDV-----------------Modric-------
    -------------------------------------------
    Lennon----------Defoe-------------Pav

    it's risky but 8/11 men on the pitch are potential goal scorers.

    Gomes
    Kaboul - Gallas - Dawson - Bale
    Lennon - Modric - Hudd - VdV
    Crouch - Defoe

    Or

    Gomes
    Kaboul - Gallas - Dawson - BAE
    Sandro
    VdV Modric
    Lennon Defoe Bale
    (4-3-3)

    What is everyone's view on this game, is the tie over or can we perform a miracle? I personally would like to see us play to go out and at least try to score 4 goals. I've heard people say that we are just playing for pride, I would play to attack and try to get back in the tie. It's not over until it's over...

    i think definitely we have to have the mentality that we're going to score enough goals to qualify. If we don't play with that sort of conviction, we'll get spanked again.

    Fuc< playing for pride. Playing for the win is the most proud thing you can do.

    Unlikely to happen, but no point turning up of we're not going to go for it hammer and tongs. Glorious whether in victory or defeat, not whimpering into the night tail between our legs in the Europa league.

    ~~~~gomes~~~
    kaboul~gallas~dawson~BAE
    ~~~sandro~~~
    lennon~hudd~modric~bale
    ~~~pav~~~
    i would have to start & get goals early but still be defensive enough & change when more goals needed to:
    ~~~gomes~~~
    gallas~dawson~BAE
    lennon~hudd~modric~bale
    ~~~VDV~~~
    defoe~~pav
    & really go for broke!
    3-5-2 quoted earlier
    would make it a brave call. but you know what, we are 4 nil down to one of the best teams in the world. apart from maybe dawson, lennon and gomes, they are all pretty good on the ball.
    Edit: maybe pienaar for lennon?
    Edit 2: force of habit in europe
