Couldnt see a thread on him (apart from bits in the summer thread)

Looks like we've had a bid rejected today for him

Noordhollands Dagblad - AZ zegt ‘nee’ tegen bod van Tottenham Hotspur

ALKMAAR - Tottenham Hotspur has at AZ made an offer for Vincent Janssen.AZ, however, find the bid 'too low to sit down at the table together, "says Max Huiberts, director of football affairs.

AZ, in turn, made a bid for Wout Weghorst, Heracles striker, but that is not accepted by the club from Almelo.

Janssen (22), top scorer in the league last season, even recently released a visit to Tottenham Hotspur. There are more clubs interested in him, but Spurs is now the first and so far the only club that has made an offer for AZ

Tottenham expected to up their offer soon to beat off competition. Janssen prefers Tottenham over Wolfsburg. (AD)

De Telegraaf reporting that AZ rejected €14 million offer from Tottenham for Vincent Janssen. AZ want at least €20 million.

I had read somewhere yesterday that the offer was rejected last week but only disclosed today.

Slightly worried we won't get this or any of our other transfers done with the Pound crashing

you think a shrewd businessman like Levy or Joe Lewis wouldn't have hedged against the pound crashing ? ... thats the least of our worries..

Spurs bid yesterday for Janssen but it was rejected. Terms agreed with the striker. Expected to return to AZ with another offer.

I think it's unlikely they hedged. When it comes down to it, THFC is a pretty small business, and I can't see them involved in currency hedging.

Edit: Small is relative. It's obviously a company of some size. But wouldn't come close to cracking the S&P 500.

au contraire - I'd think any business who may potentially be involved in transacting/contracts worth 40-50 million pounds over 2 months would hedge against the currency sliding.. given the famous brexit fear-mongering over the last few months

lets hope they have some financial analysts worth their salt in the organization

Double au contraire! It is well known that most transfer contracts are executed over the course of many years rather than a lump sum up front. Just how much will the club actually be converting into Euros in the coming months? Probably a fair bit less than the top line value of the transfers.

PSG linked with him now, for €15mill.

Hopefully it's just BS, it's been too long since we had a left footed Dutch player

It's been so long since we've identified and wanted a striker that I'm starting to think this won't happen! Although it has shades of the drawn out way we got Vertonghen.

    I hope we land him.

Side note - anyone see Emery bringing Gameiro back to PSG with him?

Sanabria nearly done according to the rags.. does that mean Janssen has turned into a "good to have" in Paul Mitchell's diary, instead of a must-have

I think Janssen is an absolute must have as with only Sanabria we're one injury away from being in the same position, PLUS we don't know how well he will take to the league. Plus I see Sanabria as being brought in as our versatile option with Janssen as the Kane alternative

I haven't seen anything special from him to suggest he's going to have a huge impact. For me his technique simply isn't good enough. Nor is he a striker. I'd really hope Pritchard could usurp his place but it doesn't look likely.

That's a fair point, but given he was brought in to be a striker, he looked way of what's required for that position, not to mention showing a questionable first touch which is likely to hinder him wherever he plays.... I expect him to be given more time, but £11m for someone who merely runs fast wouldn't amount to a great deal... We only just moved Lennon & Townsend on (Ok, Lennon felt like a natural and timely exit, but whilst I'm not a big fan of Andros, we saw seen nothing from N'Jie that AT didn't already offer).

Still a bit baffled why we couldn't combine the £33m fees + wages and sign an ACTUAL striker last summer rather than Son/N'jie... A lot of money to spend for us without improving the first XI (or at least meeting a specific requirement of the squad).

I've got to agree with that last comment. Still thinking about Higuain vs Soldado too.

Son is very much a wide player at this stage and with Lamela's performance the season before along with Chadli never being exceptional it was a very good bet that Son would have improved our starting XI. Son just didn't settle and Lamela improved dramatically. As for N'jie we don't know how that would have went or where he would have played. I'd imagine he would have been used a lot as a sub when we needed pace and to counter attack. He could have been effective we just don't know. It's easy to say why didn't we sign an unreal striker instead but there are many more questions you'd have to ask such as who was available who would have signed for us? and for what wages? and what kind of playing time could we possibly guarantee them with the future top scorer of the league in our team?

We shall probably never know but it doesn't prevent such curiosity being any less logical or valid.

They were both pitched to us on the outside as striker options when neither evidently are/were.

Son is paying for himself tbf. I have no doubt he will be a good player for us, maybe not £29m but his marketing ability is what convinced Levy to shell out £10/15m more than what he was worth. He had a great start before the injury too.

Janssen looks great though. I'm still convinced we will sign both him and Tonny.

    How's he do tracking back?

Otherwise, looks like a pretty well balanced player.

Dutch newspaper AD are reporting that Janssen made clear to his club AZ that he prefers to join Spurs and that he is getting frustrated by the fact that they are demanding too high a price and refuse to negotiate.
