Like we discussed many sees Hutton and BAE are the obvious weak link playing in the traditional 4 defence system.Reason they are deployed to attack frequent or they love to go up and incapable to regain defensive position.

So in order to let them maintain ,the system need to change.
Currently it seem they already playing a wing back but with only 2 Centre half which is why our defence is a shambles and shaky all the time.
Deloying full backs you need 3 Centre half to cover the back line.Below is what i suggest.
You dont even need BAE in this system.

    Defoe --------- Roman

    ----------VDV

    ----Modric----- Huddlestone

    BAE/Bale-------------------- Hutton

    Gallas----- king----- dawson

    LOL

    5 3 2? it would be really be a 3 5 2

and playing this sort of formation is extremely EXXXTREEEEMELY difficult formation. Whats the need to change things up AGAIN, we've already situated ourselves nicely in a 4 4 2, 4 4 1 1 or a 4 5 1 do we really need to change our tactics again? Football is all about consistency and what you're suggesting is just pointless.

In your suggested XI BAE would be dropped straight away and I wouldnt like to see Gallas nor Daws so stretched out as teams would probably play balls left right and center in the gaps that this would create.

No, 3-5-2 is no good in the modern premier league because

    1) most teams only play one striker away from home, so it means you have 2 CBS with noone to mark.
    2) if you fullbacks sit back, you are too defensive and have no attacking width, the CM becomes too congested, if they boom on you have more attacking balance, but are very prone to crossfield balls behind the wing backs.

    basically we'd get murdered

All teams play sort of 3 5 2 if attacking. You yust leave Hudd lying deep with the 2 CB's and bring the fullbacks up. Barcelona does that with Busqets.
