It seems that some of the adverts that are running are slowing down the site for some people, Ive contacted the advert people and they are working on the their server at 3pm EST so around 8PM tomorrow which will hopefully fix the problem.

BUT that got me thinking a little bit and i was wondering would anyone be interested in a premium membership to the forum ? It means that you would be moved into a group with a colour ( like the VIPS, Mod's etc have now ) which would be totally advert free , other perks like larger signature space and things like that ? Obviously if lots of people wanted to do that it would take a large chunk of advert revenue away from the forum so i was thinking something like £2 per month to be a premium member which i think is a reasonable price ?

At the moment its just an idea and to see if people would want to do it, if enough people were interested then i would put it into action. All money collected would go towards upgrades and monthly hosting costs.

    Thoughts ?

sounds good guv, BUT dont you think it might make you lose some of the people that advertise? at the mo they know that x amount of people see their adverts but if you do the premium site then the people that pay to advertise wont know how many people they are going out to which MIGHT make them think twice before parting with money

haha, No it would not mean immunity, Forum rules would still stand to everyone like it does at the moment.

Ire, im prepared to auction off bannings :D i joke i joke.

Bradders, No mate currently the forum uses an ad network of which the ads are served to us automatically regardless of how many people see it, plus the fact that 70% of the advert impressions on this site are actually made by guests not members, not necessarily our fans but all the trolls for other places, other fans etc all looking around the forum and actually paying for this place to run........nearly

    Then I won't be interested.

Only kidding, still would. I do spend a lot of time on this forum so viewing this site without the adverts (dating sites?????) would be grand.

However, I wouldn't pay £2 a month to read thfcire 's crap :302: - will there be a super ignore option for premium users :302:?

    haha, super ignore option :D.................

Contrast it would be setup via paypal subscriptions so at any point a member could cancel their monthly subscription and the forum would detect that stopped payment and demote them back to a normal member once their £2 month had run out etc .

So if someone was to be banned permanently they could cancel the sub at any time them selves. No need to contact me about it.

Premium members should have their own room.

Premium VIPs should have their own sub forum :302:

Shhh i was trying to scare him lol .

Premium members would indeed have a private room yes which can not be seen by anyone else and it would be very very lightly moderated because it would also be hidden by the outside world so it doesnt need any kind of censoring .

Bronze , silver and gold ? lol

As long as mods get free membership... :y3:

....Seriously though, I guess I wouldn't mind but only do we offer that much "premium content". I'm on another board for my school and they have a premium section but they actually get interviews from coaches, players and the admins are allowed in on practices etc. Maybe we can set up private streams or something.

Also I try to keep my credit card off the net. Not that I think you would run up my bill on new monitors :y7: but a few of my friends have burned this year.

    Just my two cents.

Yeah we dont have much content , it would be more for surfing the site with out any ads etc and the ability to have little features here and there to make the forum run better for those people with out having to sacrifice too much of the forums running costs.

As far as the credit card is concerned , its all done through paypal so no card details what so ever is even seen by anyones including me.

I'd be if you can find levy and have him give us access to players and real premium content. Seriously though, I'd do it in a heartbeat

I am neither for it nor against it , but for now I am going to play devil's advocate .....

So we are going to have to pay for something that previously was free ?

IIRC it started many years ago with water , now it seems like we have to pay for everything and that nothing is is inclusive any more . It always starts with very small payments , small enough to be unnoticeable , then the excuses start .... bank rate rises , inflation rises .... the price of oil ....... higher tax bracket ...... investment needed ........ then what was free now costs a sizeable small chunk of ones income . If we start charging then other sites will notice and will surely follow and before you know it we will be paying £30 a week for all our favourite sites .

    Just my 2p's worth .

    Yours ,

    Mr Grumpy

As i said previously nothing is mandatory , nothing will change as it is currently now. The only difference is there will be an "option" to upgrade so that you dont have to look at the adverts thats pretty much the gist of it. If you dont want to pay to have the adverts removed then you carry on as normal. So no one is making anyone pay for something that was previously for free, the site has always had adverts, remove those adverts and it means the site can no longer run, so for the very few members that would like the adverts removed the £2 is a supplement to the possibility of the adverts losing revenue.

    Or they can use adblock.

Which I guarantee most members probably already use.

Yeah i know alot of members already use it, that stops the ads from displaying, the only down side to adblock is that it still has to read the code to actually disable the ad, which means there isnt any performance benefits i.e faster loading pages etc.

There will be 3 categories of people, ones that dont care about the ads, ones that are happy using ad blockers and others that like the idea of the little perks of a premium membership, Its still only an idea and as i said in the original post unless it generates enough interest it wont happen. Id say that 10 people wanting to go into a premium membership would qualify for "enough people" as that would be enough people to warrant me actually putting in the work to get it sorted.
