Didnt know where to put this so figured a Manager ITK thread could be useful.

Post any rumours/ITK regarding managers here.

    OK,

This has been on the cards for some time, AVB put Levy’s nose out of joint.

Levy has been waiting for an opportunity. You will hear loads of rumours re AVB no doubt over the next few days as the Spurs PR machine spins into action.

Levy/Baldini have been putting the feelers out for weeks, now the plan was a young dynamic manager to build long term 18 months ago, wonder if the plan has been dumped too.

At the moment nobody we want is available.

That leaves limited option, sherwood/Freund short term until Summer.

Hoddle or Laudrup possibly both unlikely I would say, Hoddle and Levy both fell out badly and from what I hear Laudrup is happy where he is.

Feeling is they go for option A and then try and get Prandelli or Cappello in the summer, UNLESS and it is a big unless Franco can twist some arms and get one of our younger targets.

All very depressing for me, AVB should not have been sacked, we don’t build we want instant success and our Chairman needs to but out more or sell up.

that sums it all up really… they trusted to build but didn’t give him enough time.

I think it’ll be Sherwood/Ferdinand until the end of the season, no other target wants to come here.

My god I hated loosing like we did against Citeh and the giro bashers and I felt a bit down.

But this takes it to a whole different level. I understand we are in a world of sh!t now and our options are limited but this is tragic.

I agree….trouble is we’re in a state of shambles after the AVB sacking, which perhaps hasn’t been thought through (I have no inside knowledge of what goes on at the club) I read yesterday we had contacted the Basel manager? I hope we don’t just charge around like headless chickens canvassing Christ knows how many different options. The real issue is that there actually aren’t that many really top managers available, so if we can’t attract the obvious leading candidates we’re going to have to get lucky with a relative newbie….almost like the AVB scenario all over again. I’m at a total loss and find myself saying to other piss taking mates, ‘yep you’re right’ which at least shuts them up.

no matter what goes on inside the club between the personalities, in the interest of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club we should have kept AVB until after the World Cup when some of our targets became more readily available.

I think we would have finished 5th if not higher with AVB in charge all season, something tells me we are on a slippery road (not relegation, but certainly out of Europe) after the sacking

As I said in another thread, answers will come this evening from de Boer, because tonight he has a cup-match and journalists will obviously ask him about it.

His answer will be no though, he won’t join half-way into the season. If he says he quits his job and joins Spurs straight-away I will resign as Dutch expert of this forum. :001_005:

Please don’t say this :( :(… he is the only viable one seems like as i highly doubt capello , hiddink , laudrop or even pocchetinno will join us ….. And if sherwood remains till the end of season , god knows how many of our star players want to move .. i fear for lloris and vertonghen !!

Yeah, we are in a desperate situation indeed, but if you feel Pocchetino and Laudrup aren’t realistic, then de Boer certainly is not realistic either.

IF this is true and the man says we wait – we wait. Simples.

Get someone in on a short term end of season with a big fat bonus for CL qualification as an incentive and be nice and transparent so everyone knows where everyone stands.

If Levy isn’t a complete idiot, he has someone lined up already. He has proved that he’s not, so I believe that we’re about to sign someone within next… 48 hours?

I would be surprised if that happened. I’d like to believe that there is some bigger plan at work here, but i’m not so sure mate.

He still needs to win the Dutch-cup and actually want to take Ajax back to its former glory by winning something in Europe again. If he achieves this, then yes, he might leave in the summer looking for new challenges. But he just isn’t going to leave Ajax half-way into the season, he’s not that type of person.

I doubt that. We know for a fact actually that he was already looking at a new manager more than 3 weeks ago. He approached Hiddink at that time, who said no. Since then AVB has been allowed to continue, but I’m sure Levy was looking for another manager. The fact that we haven’t announced someone yet means that nobody is lined-up at this point. Hiddink was the plan, that proved to be impossible, and who is next… nobody knows and I don’t even think Levy knows.

Well, Lamela’s transfer took some time, while we always were willing to pay their asking price. "Transfers" during the season might take some time I guess. Well, I understand it could be the case we’re just trying to get anyone now, but I always considered Levy to be a smart man.

If De Boer is willing to come here in the summer. Go for it. It’s a no brainer really. If Sherwood is as comitted to the club as people claim, he should have no problem acting as an interim for the remainder of the season.

We can’t know for sure, but what I was trying to say is that Levy has been searching for over three weeks now… that is a worrying thing in itself, that he apparently hasn’t found someone in that time. Media seem to be clueless as well. Frank de Boer is number one possibility according to them, but he just won’t come right now. Levy is generally a smart man, but his appointment of managers generally hasn’t been impressive and worries me. If Sherwood is his answer for the rest of the season that’s massively disappointing. Maybe he would even do a decent job in the end, but with no senior managerial experience, it just feels like desperation from Levy’s part and a huge gamble. I really hope he still finds a proper one, but at this point I’m sceptical. Best thing we could do right now imo is just be honest to the fans and tell them that this season is lost, but that we’ve appointed a well respected, proven world-class manager named mister… for next season.

That simply isn’t good enough for me. De Boer would never ever set up in a 4-4-2 like Sherwood just did. Hell, even if we’re 3-0 down he wouldn’t switch to 4-4-2, he would just go 3-4-3. We can’t appoint someone like de Boer and then play completely different to how he would set up the season after. We can’t be in transition forever. There needs to be some vision at this club. If de Boer will sign for us in the summer (highly doubt that), then we need to get someone in on a temporarily basis who is going to start the ground-work for de Boer to work on. Just getting an interim like Sherwood on who has his own philosophy and then do something completely different after the summer isn’t the way forward. The season looks lost anyway, might as well start preparing for the next.

I agree with much of what you say, but I do think it is premature to call this season lost. Things certainly aren’t looking up, but there are still 22 league matches to play. There is still time to right the ship and potentially finish in a European slot. Champions League will be tough, but 5th is still very realistic, as is further advancement in the EL. Lots to play for and lots to focus on in terms of getting this team playing up to their potential, regardless of who the manager is.

Find out hilarious how Levy is supposedly ‘clever’ yet he’s approached De Boer’s agent. De Boer happens to have barely any managerial experience and has won trophies in a **** league, remind you of anyone???

Fabio Capello to Tottenham rumour gathers pace as no new Russia deal is signed
White Hart home: Capello’s contract negotiations have stalled and could lead him to north London
    Getty Images

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed renewed hope in their pursuit of Fabio Capello with the Italian’s contract situation opening the doors on a move to White Hart Lane.
The former England boss signed a two-year deal with the Russian FA in 2012 when he succeeded Dick Advocaat.
He has since led them successfully to next summer’s World Cup, topping their qualification group ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.
The Italian has been in negotiations over an extension until 2018, when Russia will host international football’s premier competition.
However, after over a month of talks, and despite Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko having declared that all technical points had been agreed upon, the 67-year-old’s signature is still missing.
Moreover, following the latest executive committee meeting of the Russian FA on Wednesday morning – where Capello was present – the contract situation was NOT discussed.
And that situation will only encourage Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and technical director Franco Baldini in their pursuit of the five-time Serie A-winning coach.
Capello has a long-standing association with Baldini, who acted as his assistant manager with England during Capello’s four years in charge of the Three Lions.
The pair have also worked together at Roma and Real Madrid – winning league titles on both occasions.
Capello was favourite with bookmakers to be the next Spurs boss after the departure of Andre Villas-Boas on Monday morning and was at White Hart Lane working for Italian TV during their 5-0 mauling by Liverpool on Sunday.
Following Villas-Boas’ dismissal, technical co-ordinator and former midfielder Tim Sherwood has been handed the managerial reigns on an interim basis.
Sherwood has been given the task of leading the Lilywhites in their Capital One Cup match with West Ham on Wednesday evening, vowing to attack.
And if he impresses, the 43-year-old could be handed the role until the end of the season, particularly if Spurs decide to wait to appoint their next permanent manager.
That situation could become far more likely if they pursue Capello, who is unlikely to leave his current post ahead of the World Cup.

What’s the alternatives? Capello? Then you’d whine about boring and negative football.

De Boer might not be the best choice but he’s the best of what’s possibly available. I’d take Laudrup over De Boer though.

If we are looking seriously at Capello and are considering paying him his salary, which would be close to 6Mil a season I wouldn’t be surprised if we try to force Ajax’s hand at parting with FDB by throwing enough money at them to the point were they can’t refuse. Paying Ajax 4-5M and giving FDB a 3M salary will see him jump ship. The commitment people are talking about will easily be overshadowed by money it will just depend how much money is enough for them.

They are out of the CL and are going to be competing in the EL just like we are and there is only one match left before their Winter break so they would have more then enough time to introduce a new manger and get the players familiar with him for their first game on Jan. 19.

I don’t see how a 5 point gap accounts for a season being "lost".

Reading the comments of De Boer’s agent all that has been said is that we haven’t officially approached Ajax yet and that Frank is concentrating on Ajax, which of course is what he would say.

    It’s all quite ambiguous.

Did you guys see the Rogers quotes?
"Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said he’s pleased he ended in rejecting Tottenham when at Swansea:
They are a great club and one of the things I looked at was the history. They’d 11 managers in 18 years. I needed to create something; I needed to go to club that was going to give that opportunity. They have had a good couple of years, they were up there under Harry Redknapp.I am more than happy with the choice I made to come here and hopefully in time it will prove to be the right one."

which is EXTREMELY interesting because Rogers joined liverpool on June 1st….SIXTEEN DAYS BEFORE REDKNAPP WAS SACKED
god damn that is hilariously stupid on his part hahaha
