I agree 2 years ago he was questionable. But, with respect I disagree, in fact, I would say his performance against Le’Arse at home last year was probably the top LB performance I have ever seen. He was very consistent last year and his linking with the Welsh Wizard is fantastic.

Warnock and Kolorov are not a patch on BAE. Bent has all the attributes to be better than Cole, just needs to work on his mentality.I’d also rather Benny to Baines, Baines Has amazing delivery but is not a great defender imo

I remember a time not so long ago that we didn’t have a single left footed player in the team and had to make do with YPLee at LB and the likes of Malbranque and Ghaly filling in at left wing. decent left sided players are hard to come by especially in the premier league and we won’t get better for less than what we sell him for so i don’t see the point. plus he links well with Bale down the left.

Like many others on here, I believe that we could not get a better full back than him, and he’s also one of my favorite players at the club. But then again, I think about Danny Rose… :y12:

The best? Better than any of Roberto Carlos’s performances?

As usual, we tend to overrate our up and coming players. Danny Rose hasn’t even proved himself in an entire season in top flight. I personally don’t think he is good enough to be a left winger (crossing sucks and dribbling is lacking) and he will need to learn and prove his defensive side of the game in order to be a top quality left back.

This and your other posts in this thread are nonsense. How about you judge the guy on his last 12 months? BAE is a completely different player than what we saw three years ago.

BAE would be in the top handful of left backs in the world and in the top 3 in the EPL. In fact, I would argue that he is the best left back playing in England with only Leighton Baines being in the same class. Evra, Kolorov, Clichy, Warnock….give me a break.:18:

This right here^^, is a 100% true. BAE has the better dribbling and technique than any of those 4, aside from maybe Clichy (arguable), but BAE is better than him in defense.

Sorry but both Cole & Evra > Benny but after that it gets a little hazy for me, maybe Baines is on a par

The thing about BAE is that he is not flashy. You don’t notice him much during games. And that is what is so great about him. He just gets the job done. The last time you noticed him in a big way during a game was way back two or three seasons ago when he scored that goal against Liverpool. The other times you notice him is if he makes the odd mistake. That’s it. So you can see why he might have a bad reputation on here. People only notice when he does something wrong. It’s the dozens and dozens of games chock full of consistent performances that you don’t notice at all that makes him one of the best left backs in the Premiership. He is our new Mr Reliable, in my opinion. I love the fact that he plays for Spurs and I know that if Harry has any sense at all he will laugh off any offers for him.

I’d think that with his technique and ability to dribble past the oposition quite often when facing them should be noticable… as I won’t judge it myself as it would be a little biased.

I did not grow up watching the right football, I watched the kind with an oblong ball. But, in the past 6 years, I would say that was the best I have seen.

One thing I do like about him, and I don’t think anyone has pointed out, he is quite audacious at the back. He trusts his speed and dribbling ability, and he gets away with it. I love the coolness he has at getting out of a jam.

Haha yeah I love that he really knows what he’s doing these days. Like he’ll dribble it around in the box for a bit to lose his man, but it’ll be in such a danger spot so i’ll be watching the game having a seizure like HOOF IT BENNY JUST ****ING HOOF IT HOOF IT HOOF IT YOU PRICK when really he’s just super composed

BAE is quality! Worth more to Spurs than 13.5M, especially not having an experienced accomplished LB in the side.

I truly believe that Ashley Cole is the only better left-back in the league and Benny, for me, is in the top 5 in the world at the moment. The only flaw in his game was his tendency towards making mistakes but I’ve hardly seen any errors by him in recent memory. The only goal I recall in the last 6 months that was attributable to him was the one (I forget against who) where he pulled his hamstring chasing the ball which let the winger in. Check out the stats on our team’s passing and you’ll see how important he is. Along with Modric he makes the most passes in a game.

I think that was West Broms opener in 2-2 draw. Totally agree though i’ve heard that a lot of wingers say he’s one of the toughest to play against in the league because of his skill, pace and strength.

BAE should be taken into the ranks of world class left backs imo.

I dont miss any games with bayern munich and watch Philip Lahm and BAE is just as good as him but nobody notices it.

I even think BAE is stronger at defence while lahm is better at going forward. If he just didnt have some moments where he is not that concentrated ,he would even better.

    No.

Hell Spurs only just got cover for LB by playing Rose there last season, BAE had to play games with knocks, was dragged out of bed with the flu for one game because the team just didnt have a replacement LB, BAE was 1 of the top 3-4 LB’s last season in the prem, had the most interceptions of any LB, his shepherding of the ball was brilliant, was about 3rd or 4th in the team for touches, switched play on the diagonal well, interchanged with Bale well, dribbled out of trouble and cleared well, schooled Wilshere 2 or 3 times down that wing, then just sat casually pulling up his socks with that BAE nonplussed look on his face while Wilshere gave him an earful in frustration, and dare i say it, actually defended well, his game against Chelsea he seemed to be everywhere with last minute blocks, clearances, and interceptions, some of his through balls and distribution has been awesome.

Evra, Cole, and BAE for me, a shout for Baines, Enrique is still a notch below BAE’s game, same with Kolarov, i think both Kolarov and Enrique are as good going forward and defending but they lack BAE’s array of passing. When Spurs want to switch play it goes to BAE more often than not, and his vision for the long through balls like to say Lennon against Arse and to VDV against Pirates is pretty good, he can swing in a decent cross to Crouch’s head and can almost put a switch ball across to Lennon, Corluka, or VDV on a dime.

Sure his 1st season he was rubbish, but he has played a lot of games at LB now, gained experience, a better footballing brain, and has improved his all round game, not really surprising given the amount of time he has played at LB. With Rose as a backup and BAE as the main left back Spurs have good cover in that spot for the first time in like 4 seasons, and really for 13 million who are Spurs going to get thats better than BAE?

I’ve been back and forth about BAE really, but if you think about it, he’s one of our few players who have consistently improved over the last few seasons. The mental lapses have become progressively less common, he’s become more composed on the ball as some have alluded to, and he seems to be a pretty level-headed fellow.

i wouldn’t want us to loss benny. With him and rose as cover we finally have a good couple of lb. And with charlie and walker on the other side we’re looking strong at full back.

Let’s not forget it was BAE who passed it to Lennon against Arsenal which was converted to a penalty. He is definitely one of the most underrated players in Premier League.

This guy should be on the not-for-sale list along with Bale, Sandro and Modric. He is one of our best players both technically and in terms of consistency and the club would be insane to sell him given that we only have a converted winger in Danny Rose as back-up.

No no no. You are not selling BAE ! Don’t even think about that !

I remember games when his performances could have been described as shaky but at the second half of season he was more like rock solid . When I was watching game and a winger of opponent was faceing BAE, I was sure that he can’t get thru. And if we could get a good target man upfront, his crosses will be a lot more productive also ! And what else to you want from LB? Solid in defence, delievers good balls to box, links up with winger and can pass.

Of course, at times he tend to take shots at goal to easely as shooting ain’t hes best attribute, but he have overcame this bad habit also, so nothing bad to say. BAE and Rose will be geat pairing in LB position. There are positions that need more upgrading than LB for sure.

I think we need a good song for BAE, it was noticeable against real Madrid at home that we lacked on!
