I’ve been getting that from the comments also. He says one thing, it’s construed as something else, as always with regards to Spurs connections in anything.

"“I am very satisfied with Ajax and I am not ready to leave yet. Spurs are not a club who can currently take me on."
"I have no doubt they are a great club, that’s for sure."
"Means I’m good at my job. For rest I cannot do too much about. I’m very happy here, just getting started with Ajax.”
"It means I’m doing well, but I’ve only just started here, very happy, not ready to leave."
"If there is interest from Spurs, I am very honored. But i have my full attention at Ajax."

I don’t see how you can be more clear than that.

I’ve seen bits of those quotes cut up in different publications, I’ve seen other bits omitted. The same thing happen often when Italian stories are translated into English. That sounds clear but I asked WHD, an actual Ajax fan to clarify, if that article was correct. Thanks for the input though, I just wasn’t sure.

Swiss paper Blick is saying that Baldini was at Basel’s 1-0 over Chelsea and this was to first contact their manager.

A few links recently have said the same (SportsNewsDirect and another one off story…not very reliable though).

Right, so it could have been for their manager or Salah or something else.

This guys name has been under the radar though, and I believe he only has 1 year left on his current contract.

From what you’ve posted re Spalletti previously and having done a bit of research now, this definitely has some fast growing appeal to me.

Q. What might you envisage could be the main pros and cons with any potential possible Spalletti/Spurs involvement?

Big name managers want total control. With both Baldini and Levy playing major roles, I don’t see how Spurs is an appealing job to big names.

His actual quotes before the camera of FOX just before their cup-match yesterday are these:

Interviewer: "Very briefly, let’s talk about the news from England. Apparently you are under interest from Spurs. But I read in an English newspaper that you already declined them? Can you confirm anything?"

De Boer:
"I haven’t spoken to the Spurs. If it turns out there is interest from them in me then I’m honoured, but currently my full attention is on Ajax, and that stays that way for now."

Interviewer:
"Being honoured sounds like there is maybe something possible in the summer?"

De Boer:
"No, I just focus on Ajax. And again, I’ve said plenty of times that if I feel good at Ajax and if Ajax feels good about me, then I see no reason at all to leave."

This was said before the camera yesterday, both before and after that match I’ve seen other quotes coming up in various papers, I don’t know if those are real, made-up, or just a slightly different interpretation/translation from the quotes I just posted, but whatever the case, it is clear that he is not joining us right now and it’s also unlikely to happen in the summer.

Well……

He knows Baldini well.
Progressive tactically, though practical.
He rotates a squad.
In recent years he’s dealt with big egos in a inhospitable enviroment.
Many of the players we have are his type of player, like Paulinho for example.
He has experience managing a range of different clubs.
Boy can he work on a budget. Right Rosella? :y14:

There have been questions about how he handles late season matches, in particular competing in multiple competitions. He doesn’t speak english well (I think it’s very basic), which personally I don’t think is a big deal but that will make him a target for the press from day one. Those are two draw backs but as I’ve said before I really like him so it’s hard for me to poke too many holes.

What would make things more difficult is Prandelli likely is going back into club management after the World Cup. The obvious candidates would be Conte and Spalletti. So he might want to wait to see if that goes anywhere. Conte isn’t a shoe in for that job. I personally think he’s the second coming and more whiny version of Roberto Mancini. Which might give Spalletti a leg up because he’s a far more likeable guy and that matters with the FIGC because it’s pretty much a northern old boys club.

Here’s him talking about random things, not sure that helps at all.

Well at Roma we had English legend Simone Perrotta :p and he was similar to Paulinho. The difference is for Spalletti, Perrotta wouldn’t be as effective without a regista, which AVB never really understood. Perrotta worked when paired with Pizarro, he worked for Italy when paired with Pirlo. AVB tried to accomplish this with Paulinho and Dembele which the issue.

I have said a long time ago , paulinho , dembele pair never ever gonna work !!! paulinho is clearly a pure box to box mf who needs a passer alongside him… I don’t know what’s the best position of dembele to be honest .. i just don’t know what kind of football he is.. is he flashy or really productive ?? Or he is just a dribbler midfielder ( new position in football i guess ) …….. And then avb’s player selection has always baffled me as well ….I don’t see any problem with his tactics or how he wants his team to set .. but his player selection is the worst !! Why you would pick a player who can’t play the role perfectly you want him to be whereas you have the options in the squad to change………. Couple of days ago i read an article where someone claim avb picks his squad based on the player’s confidence !! If that’s really the case , then all those tactical supremacy and other adjectives laid on avb are simply a myth !!

Thanks for that BlueCrew – just finished watching both of them. Spalletti handles himself very well in front of the camera. Seems a charismatic bloke, who obviously knows his stuff football-wise and, I’d imagine, would be/is very popular indeed with the fans.

Lol, you would have liked people to have been talking about the job as if it would be a decent one.

"Yeah it’s a great club with great players and history, who wouldn’t want a go at that job"

Apparently not so much.

In about two/three hours there is going to be news about van Gaal, could be nothing of importance, but who knows… we’ll have to wait and see I guess.

Yes! I will buy his plane-ticket to London and drive him to Schiphol myself if I have to.

Wow thats a statement of intent, I’d give Tim a chance but there’s no denying Van Haal’s CV is pretty powerful

Not really, a flight from Amsterdam to London is very cheap these days and the ride won’t take longer then one hour for me. :p

I doubt he would come in straight away btw, can’t see the KNVB allowing that. But it looks like he might be our manager after the summer, with a care-taker like Sherwood getting the job until then.

Sherwood has said he wants the job or nothing at all, does he mean that if we announce that someone else is taking over in the summer he will not be willing to be caretaker until then and walkaway now?.

Maybe he goes back to the U21’s and Hoddle comes in as interim? I’d rather Tim stayed as caretaker, maybe DL can persuade him

Yea I’m not too keen on it as Hoddle seems to just have kind of basic ideas but who else would want to interim?
