So according to tomorrow’s Sun, Spurs are attempting to seal a January move for WBA’s young England striker, Saido Berahino.

He certainly looks like a good prospect who knows where the goal is & the hope is that he can link up with Harry Kane at Spurs, just as the pair have been doing so successfully for the England U21s!

I’d be pretty down with this move. £15m is rumoured to be what it would take to prise him away from Albion & it seems pretty steep on the surface, but it’s not crazy money for a promising, young English goalscorer. If we combine it with the goalscoring experience of Huntelaar for just £3m, it’s the makings of a very interesting looking strike force

Pochettino set to move for Berahino in January

No way they’d sell for £15 million in Jan. He’s key to helping them stay in the Prem, so they wouldn’t even consider selling him for a fee that is so little in comparison to what it would cost them if they got relegated.

    I disagree totally.

As good as Berahino has been for them, it’s early season & the pressure is off. If they are finding themselves in a relegation battle, the last thing they’re going to want is to be putting pressure on a young kid’s shoulders.

There’s also the question of what Berahino himself wants, & if he has the prospect of coming to Spurs & playing then it would be hugely tempting for him, particularly as his partnership with Harry looks so fruitful

It is dependent on who WBA can target to bring in, but if we’re looking at this so early then it surely gives them time to look for a replacement, & for £15m they could buy a good, experienced campaigner more suited to the pressures of a relegation battle.

Besides, I reckon WBA will be looking comfortably at mid-table by then. There are worse teams than them in the league after all

Purely from a Spurs perspective: He & Harry look quality together. Could this be the makings of Archibald/Crooks MkII?

Surely the last thing they’d want to do in a relegation battle is sell their biggest goal threat. I’m pretty sure close to 100% of the football fraternity would agree with that.

The summer is a different market and we’ll have a much better chance then. But even so, I doubt £15 million would tempt them even then, as the market is so inflated. If he scores around 15 goals, I bet they would demand closer to £20 million. I think Shane Long cost £12 million.

I really like Berahino as a player. Unquestionable work rate, makes dangerous attacking runs constantly, and has the finishing touch. Add in the youth and you’ve got an incredibly intriguing player for now and the future.

If he gets sold to a club for a big sum of cash he’ll probably just flop.
Give him time – whilst we nurture our own youth.

We should do it. Very good prospect and fits the mould of our successful signings in recent years. He could replace Soldado and Lennon by himself.

This is the kind of player I expect Poch to target, young, hungry and suitable for English football.

How would we line up if Berahino ends up being a starter?

    ————- Chadli

    Eriksen — Lamela — Berahino

    or

    ————- Berahino

    Chadli —- Eriksen — Lamela?

    or?

I can see us completely scrapping our front line – bringing in Jay Rod, Huntelaar and this guy for around 30 million while flogging Soldado, Ade and Lennon for cash

It might be a good move, but 15 mil for Berahino when Origi went for 10 mil? I think Origi was the better prospect.

If it means no more Ade then it’s reason enough to endorse the move.

I thought he looked great last season and he has improved since then. I’d be surprised if they settled for £15m though

He seems like a smart composed young guy in this interview.

    I actually do rate Berahino.

It depresses me that he’ll cost £15m but that’s the market these days. This is why some of us complain about market inflation because a club demanding £15m-£20m for these players will become a regular thing.

…. but I wouldn’t put it past West Brom taking a swap.

If he played in England he would cost the same amount.

I personally would put him at the same level as Origi or higher, that kid is pretty hyped. I think Berahino is enough of a raw product that Pochettino feels he can mold him into the type of striker he needs to make his system work.

I was in support of the Welbeck move for similar reasons and this kid has a higher ceiling and I think he has more dynamism in his locker which a good coach can unlock.

Yeah I remember when folks around here were saying £20m for Damaio was justified, not me. Ade scored as many in one game last season than he has all season (in the league), he’s getting benched now. None of us are actually scouts around here and we’re prone to mistakes. I rate him though, £15m is pretty steep though if they don’t want to do a swap I’m not sure I would pay that much. I rate Paco Alcacer higher and the would cost the same.

It’s sad that Ade is the best we can get……. I don’t care that he played for the scum, he just doesn’t score enough goals end of story.

Last season Ade scored 11 goals in 21 Premier League appearances, which is very acceptable in an average Spurs side. He isn’t that bad this season, but he needs to be on the scoresheet more often.

Not convinced he would be successful in our system.
